About NSW Fuel Prices
NSW fuel prices follow a weekly cycle. Prices typically rise on Thursdays and peak over the weekend, then drop on Mondays and Tuesdays — the best days to fill up. This pattern is most pronounced in Sydney but also occurs in regional centres.
The NSW Government's FuelCheck program requires all service stations to report their prices in real time, making NSW one of the most transparent fuel markets in Australia. Prices are updated within 30 minutes of any change at the pump.
Independent and discount retailers like United, Metro Fuel and Budget often have the cheapest prices. Major brands (BP, Ampol, Shell) typically price higher but are more prevalent in regional areas. Using a discount docket from Coles or Woolworths can save an additional 4–6 cents per litre at participating stations.
